Freedom Of Speech And Thought for All!
By Susan Steffen-Kraft
The same excuses of “security and safety will be used.” I have a feeling that many people who identify themselves as Republicans will swallow it, hook, line and sinker, bait and pole.
The sooner people get away from this phony “Republican vs. Democrat” nonsense then the better off we’ll all be. We should be electing people who want to do the right thing, not the “Republican” thing.
As examples please think of Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz or Justin Amash and James Risch, plus Representatives Stockman, Gowdy, and Labrador. Sure, they’re Republicans. But to them, party affiliation is secondary to the Constitution. And it should be to all of you also.
There is a statement that "If we do not hang together we shall surely hang separately" This is very true. The Democrats seems to know this well enough most of the time. But Republicans, well, uh not so much. There are RINOS and Conservatives both in the party.
I was recently kicked out of a so-called Conservative group for defending someone over a picture of a woman who bore a vague resemblance to Sarah Palin. She was heavier, and with tasteless clothes on and when I say vague resemblance I mean vague. Sarah would be insulted , but I digress.
The administrators did not even read the article. They tossed out the person who wrote the article on the basis of this picture. The article was actually criticizing Libertarians and was entitled "All Dressed Up And Nowhere to Go " .
It was this person's opinion about Libertarians and he was actually to some degree criticizing them. The two pictures were of two prostitutes. Now I did not totally agree with this article but it was not about Sarah Palin at all as she is not even a Libertarian.
Thus, when they tossed this person I knew and they had not even read the article. I questioned the administrator and she admitted that she needed to look it over to see if she was wrong. I chastised her quite thoroughly I confess. But she plainly stated it was a prostitute with Palin's head on the body.
I had posted a blog article of mine which was entitled " A Culture Of Ignorance " in the group and she took offense because and I quote "I just read your post about tolerance. Really? You're going to get snarky with me? I don't have the time for that crap" was her direct message to me and she booted me out.
Did she have a right to say that and do that; of course she did. Do I respect her for it however is another matter. She claims to be for Liberty and a Conservative. Well, I have my doubts about that!
So this administrator judged someone else falsely and could not take some pointed remarks from me. Thus both my friend and I were kicked out of the group. She even said she would put the person who wrote the article back in the group if she were wrong. She did not keep her word.
She said she would look again at the article but being as she was angry at me for pointing out her judgmental attitude and the error of her ways on the picture in the article, this administrator chose to take the easy road and boot out two conservatives.
My point in all of this is that Republicans and especially Conservatives should be hanging together and forget the stupid pettiness.
I would not and will not trust someone like that if I am in the trenches with them. Especially someone who claims to be Republican and Conservative.
Now I realize many are not like that, but how many of you will really stand with someone if the government comes after them and says they are treasonous. There is a name for people with that attitude, Sunshine Patriots!
I am wondering if you will turn tail and run. I think this person would. They are too concerned with their own petty "I am right and you are wrong" to see the bigger picture which is to put aside your party vs. party philosophy and become just pain old "I support the Constitution , Declaration of Independence and The Bill of Rights".
Conservatives/Republicans may also remember that they will continue to lose elections because they squabble over many things while the Liberals/Democrats laugh and for the most part stay cohesive.
You may not like this article but you better search your own heart and beliefs before you get angry with me. I merely put the story above as an example of someone who claims to believe in Liberty but has no tolerance whatsoever. If you have no tolerance for a differing opinion then you will not stand for the rights of others to disagree with you or anyone else. And yes, we will all hang separately!
“The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers, and New Englanders are no more. I Am Not A Virginian, But An American!” — Patrick Henry in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party.
We would do well to think and learn from this statement. We Are Not Democrats, We Are Not Republicans, We Are Not Libertarians, because WE ARE AMERICANS standing for this Country and for Liberty!
Conservatives especially have a duty to honor what they stand for and sometimes that means listening to others opinions even if they are Liberals. If you have values then you must stand for them, but if you claim to be a Christian then you must also be kind in your replies.
I refuse to lower myself, when using the pen as a sword, to the level of swearing and being downright uncivil. I think and hope I have succeeded most of the time.
Our forefathers despite their firmness and their stances did not use four letter words as I have seen coming out of the mouths of those who claim to be Christian and Conservative.
Perhaps we should be trying to have a few social graces of civility. This should actually apply to all political parties, but, alas, I fear not many times.
“If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all.”
― Noam Chomsky
Let me finish this article with this quote:
"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.” — John Adams, 1765
This is what was important to them not four letter words and uncivil behavior. There may have been some swearing sometimes but they definitely hung together in the end to give us what many today seem to have tossed away in the garbage can while fighting and insulting each other. Actions count louder then words.
