Dear Friends :This is D.D. speaking. This past summer the boss , Spaced Teacher , and I were looking for a geographically close and interesting destination with some fine Western restaurants to spend a quick nine day mini-vacation. Since Shenyang is close to where we live and does have a few cultural and scenic points of interest we decided to go there. Shenyang is viewed by most people as simply a waystation on the road to the far more exotic and romantic city of Dalian about an eight hour hour train ride South. While that viewpoint is generally true it's not the whole story. Shenyang does have four or five things worth seeing and many fine Western restaurants. The object of today's post is The Shenyang Botanical Gardens which is well worth seeing. Let me interject a seasoned travelers advice here. If you happen to find yourself in Shenyang with a desire to see The Botanical Gardens spend the money and take a cab. They are located in the deep suburbs of Shenyang with the only means of public transportation a two hour busride on a rickety run down crowded city bus. LISTEN to D.D. spend the 50 RMB and you'll ride in comfort and be there in about 45 minutes.Check out the slide shows below. To see some more of the Shenyang site just click on the immediately following links -- 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.I hope you enjoy the show.D.D.

As in America, you can plainly find some treasures off the beaten path. That place reminds me somewhat of the Rose Gardens of Tyler in Texas. Not many people even know about that place... or why Earl Campbell was called The Tyler Rose!
